DIY - Dreamcatcher

Hi everyone!

Today I have another DIY for y'all... how to make a dreamcatcher! I love these and they are perfect for hanging in my room, which I like to keep a summer vibe in all year round. These are super easy and there is endless designs you could make.

Supplies:
-A hoop the size you want your dreamcatcher,
I used metal but plastic works just as well. I
also used a large one and a smaller one
-String or embroidery thread - lots of it!
-Feathers
-Scissors
-Needle
-Leather string (optional)
-Any other things to decorate eg beads

1. Choose the colour you want the hoop to be, I chose black, and tie the end onto the large hoop.

2. Start wrapping the string around the outside of the hoop. You need to cover the whole hoop.

3. Once you have covered the hoop tie off the string and cut the end. I put a dab of glue over the knot to make sure it wouldn't come undone.

4. Now is to make the net part in the center. Start tying the string around the hoop (see picture). To keep it from going lopsided the string needs to be tied on in even spaces apart. You can just estimate this but I actually measured mine because I didn't trust myself not to mess up. I think I split mine into 12 parts but it will depend on the size of your hoop.

5. Once you get back to the start don't tie the sting in the same place as the start but tie it in the middle of the first section of string. You will be making a sort of spiral shape.

6. It should be starting to look like this. Keep going until you get to the center.

7. When you get into the middle it is easiest to use a needle to weave the sting as it gets small.

8. When you get to the middle you can just tie it off like I did or thread a bead into the middle for extra decoration.

9. With the smaller ring I wrapped leather around it.

10. Take 3 strands of the leather and glue them to the hoop.

11. Next plait the strands.

12. When you reach the end glue the ends down onto the opposite side of the hoop.

13. Glue 2 strands of the leather to the middle of the plait and to the bottom of the hoop on an angle to make a peace sign.

14. Tie the peace sign onto the bottom of the dreamcatcher.

15. Tie feathers onto the bottom. The easiest way to do this is to tie the string around the feather then put a dab of glue over the string so the feather doesn't slip off. Add any beads or anything else you want to decorate it with.

16. Tie string on the top to hang it from.

Done! These are super fun and easy to make and are an awesome decoration for any room. The different ways you could make them is endless!

DIY - Flower Hairclips

Hi everyone

My high school ball is coming up in a few weeks and the theme is Enchanted Forest so I have decided I want flowers in my hair. I made these flower hair-clips which are going to be perfect for the night and below is the instructions of how I made them.

Supplies

-Fake flowers - I got mine from the dollar store
for only a couple of dollars
-Bobby pins
-Wire - I used 28 gauge
-Needle
-Pliers (If you have them, they are helpful)
-Wire Cutters
-Hot glue (optional)

1. Pull the flowers off the stems

2. Cut the stem bit down if it is too long. Don't cut it all off or the flowers will fall apart.

3. Push the needle through the stem to make a hole.

4. Put the wire through the holes.

5. Wrap the wire around the bobby pin.

6. Make sure the ends of the wire are pushed flat.

7. If the flowers feel a bit loose you can put a little hot glue over it to hold it a bit more.

Done!

That's all there is to it! Super simple and very pretty for any hairstyle.
Over the next few weeks I will have more posts relating to my ball including my makeup and my final look for the night!

If you have anything you would like me to post leave a comment!

DIY - Nutmeg Face Mask! (with my sister Maddie!!)

Hi everyone!

With my high school ball only a few months away I thought it was about time I got on top of my skin care. Two of the problems I have when trying to find products for my face is that I either react to them of they completely dry out my skin so a simple solution to this was to make a homemade face mask.

Making your own face mask is great as you know exactly what is in it and you can add whatever you want to make a mask that works well for your skin.

I made a Nutmeg face mask which will brighten dull skin and help with acne.

Ingredients:

1/2 Tablespoon Nutmeg
1 Tablespoon Milk
2 teaspoon Runny Honey

1. Put all the ingredients into a bowl and mix well. The one I made is a bit liquidy because that is how I like it but if you like more of a paste add more nutmeg and less milk.

2. Start with a clean face.

3. Brush the mask onto your face. We used cheap synthetic brushes for this. (It can be a bit messy so don't wear your favorite onesie like Maddie did). You can let it set a bit then brush more on to make it thicker.

4. Leave your mask on for 10-15 mins. You could use this time to take selfies like we did haha.

5. Wipe off the mask with a damp towel.

6. Apply a moisturiser. I use Garnier Moisture Match for normal skin. There is a huge range of these moisterisers so you can easily find one for your skin type.

I really like how my skin feels after using this mask. Use once or twice a week for best results.

DIY - Terrariums!!

Hi everyone!

Todays DIY is how to make your own terrarium. This is a mini indoor garden perfect for if you don't have any garden space outside or just to decorate a room. There is endless possibilities of ways to decorate them so each one is unique and interesting.

This is going to be a two part DIY, the first part will be on the basics of planting your terrarium and making a desert one with cacti and succulents. The second half will be making a wetter terrarium and how to make little decorations to put into your terrariums.

Supplies:

- Glass terrarium or large vase - I suggest looking around at
recycling centers and second-hand shops first. The one for
this terrarium I found at The Warehouse on sale for $15
- Potting Mix
- Plants - For this desert terrarium choose cacti and succulents
which don't need much water
- Gardening tools
- Gardening Gloves
- Bag of aquarium stones - these can be found at pet stores
-Extra Decorations

1. Fill the bottom of you glass terrarium with the aquarium stones. You only need to fill up to a few cm - keep in mind how tall your plants are how how much potting mix you need to fit in. These stones are important for the water to drain into.

2. Pour in your potting mix. You will need more of this than the stones for your plants to grow their roots. My terrarium is now filled up just below half way. Potting mix is better than just regular soil as it has more nutrients for the plants to grow. You can also get a cactus potting mix which you could use.

3. Decide where you want each plant to go. Make a hole and carefully remove the plant from the pot and put it into the hole. Use gloves if you are planting a cactus or you will get spikes in your hands (I still somehow managed to do that and it wasn't fun).

4. Layer more of the stones on the top around the plants. This is optional but I thought it worked well for this one as it made the environment look dryer like a desert would be and was more interesting to look at than soil.

5. Add any extra decorations such as crystals or cool stones.

6. Water your plants a bit. You just want to dampen the soil. For cacti and succulents you won't need the water it very often. Watering instructions are usually found on the back of the information card on the plant.

Done! These desert terrariums are very easy to make and they don't require too much effort to look after as cacti and succulents don't need to be watered often. These terrariums are perfect for decorating any room and are perfect indoor gardens if you don't have any garden space outside.

I will be posting the second part of this post very soon so make sure you come back for that!

DIY - Jewellery Gift Bags

Hi Everyone!

If you follow my Instagram or Facebook you will have seen the huge amount of jewellery I have been making lately. Whenever I sell any of my jewellery I like to package it nicely in a box or bag but I have been running out of little gift bags. I spend an afternoon sewing heaps of little gift bags and thought I would share with you how to make these! The are super easy to sew and only take a few minutes for each one!

Supplies:

-Fabric - I used plain black, thick cotton fabric
-Ribbon - thin is better
-Scissors
-Thread
-Sewing Machine (or you can hand sew)
-Saftey pin
-Ruler

1. Cut out a rectangle. When folded in half it will be the size of your bag. Make sure to leave space for a seam. Mine was 17.5 x 10.5 cm.

2. Fold down the top of the rectangle the width of you ribbon. Sew along the edge.

3. Fold in half right sides together and sew around the open sides. leave top open and only sew up to where you last stitched so you can still put the ribbon through.

4. Cut off the bottom corners being careful not to cut the stitching and cut down the top seem on the folded side to the stitching without cutting it.

5. Turn bag through right way.

6. Measure the length of ribbon a bit longer than the bag, double this length and cut it. Cut another the same length.

7. Thread one of the pieces of ribbon through the seam on both sides of the bag. A safety pin makes this easier. Tie the ends together.

8. Thread the other ribbon through the top in the opposite direction of the last one.

Done! These are super easy to make and I can make heaps in just one afternoon. These are perfect for packaging my jewellery and would also be good for all types of gifts and things.
